HS2 Debuts Construction Apprenticeship for Graduates and Career Shifters

HS2 Debuts Construction Apprenticeship

High-Speed 2 (HS2) recently announced a new construction apprenticeship program that welcomes college graduates and individuals contemplating a career change. This comprehensive program offers a prime opportunity to earn while learning, broadening horizons, and gaining valuable industry experience.

A Welcoming Opportunity for All

The program, set to kick off on July 12, will provide 24 brand-new apprenticeship roles. Remarkably, these positions are open to residents of Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, and Oxfordshire who are currently unemployed.

Whether you’re a fresh graduate eager to extend your knowledge or a professional seeking a fresh start, this apprenticeship welcomes you. There’s no need for prior industry experience, and age isn’t a barrier, ensuring that the program is as inclusive as possible.

Pre-Employment Training: A Step Towards Success

To give applicants a clear insight into the construction industry, HS2 has designed a two-week pre-employment training program starting on June 12. This preliminary stage equips candidates with a pragmatic understanding of the tasks and responsibilities they would assume in the construction field.

Marching Towards a Robust Workforce

HS2 has a longstanding commitment to fostering skills development, with a goal of offering 2,000 apprenticeships. As of now, they’ve recruited 1,126 individuals via different apprenticeship schemes that cover a plethora of areas, including carpentry, cyber security, tunnelling operations, and environmental techniques.

Pathways to Professional Success

The available apprenticeships are divided into two distinct pathways: twelve positions for Level 2 Steelworkers and twelve for Level 2 Formwork in carpentry/joinery. Both roles will involve a mix of practical experience and theoretical study at The Skills Centre in Newton Purcell, Oxfordshire, over 18-24 months, depending on the apprentice’s progress.

A Fully Funded Initiative

The HS2 construction apprenticeship will be funded entirely by EKFB (a joint venture of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction, and BAM Nuttall) and the Government’s Adult Education Budget (AEB). This is in collaboration with EKFB’s labour providers Carmichael, Danny Sullivan Group, McGinley, Reliable Contractors, Venesky-Brown, and VGC.

How to Apply

Ready to take the first step towards a promising career in construction? More details about the apprenticeship can be found on the HS2 online jobs board. Please note that the application deadline for both roles is Saturday, July 1, 2023.
